For the past four years, I’ve been drawing in my journals almost every day, a practice that has become a form of meditation and runs like an invisible thread through my artistic development. As I browsed through the pages, I realized how consistently certain shapes, colors and rhythms have been recurring. The intensity varies, yet I always move within a similar space: organic, playful, feminine and sometimes floral.
For me, these drawings are a way to create without pressure and without striving for perfection. In my view, their quality lies precisely in that: in their simplicity, their colorfulness and their imperfection. Removing them from their original context and presenting them as standalone works allows them to become storytellers of their own.
I’m an artist rooted in music: a DJ, producer, curator and currently pursuing a master’s degree in Art in Context at the UdK. These drawings represent a counterbalance for me, allowing me to step away from the ambitious, sometimes meticulous structures of my projects. I discovered that this, too, is part of my artistic practice: playing with the different voices that exist within me.
I invite you to be part of this process and to discover what emerges between the works and you and am curious to see which stories you might continue to write…stories that I have only just begun to tell.
This platform brings together a curated selection of drawings from my journals for the first time. Alongside the framed originals, selected works are available as decorative papers, allowing these drawings to continue their journey beyond the journals and into new spaces.
I appreciate you taking the time and supporting my work.
Best,
Cecilia Tosh
